Liverpool legend Gerrard sends message to Tottenham star Kane over Man Utd transfer

Liverpool legend Steven Gerrard thinks it could be time for Harry Kane to leave Tottenham this summer amid interest from Man Utd.

The England international has been heavily linked with a move away from Spurs with Kane still yet to win a trophy in his career.

Tottenham were recently dumped out of the FA Cup by Sheffield United and beaten in the last 16 of the Champions League by AC Milan with Antonio Conte’s side having no chance of winning the Premier League title.

That means Kane will go another season without silverware and many pundits and former players think it is now the time for the striker to leave his boyhood club for pastures new.

Man Utd seem to be the main club linked with Kane as the 29-year-old is reportedly looking to stay in England in an attempt to break Alan Shearer’s Premier League goalscoring record.

And Premier League giants Man Utd would also be one of the only clubs who need a striker and can afford his fee and wages.

Kane broke the all-time England goalscoring record on Thursday night when he converted a penalty in a 2-1 victory over Italy in Naples and former Liverpool midfielder Gerrard reckons it could be “time for him to move on”.

Gerrard, who was working as a pundit for Channel 4, said: “It’s an incredible penalty, it’s precise, takes the side-netting off. He’s one of the best penalty-takers in the world, that’s why it was such a surprise what happened to him in the World Cup.

“You’re talking about greatness, you’re talking about one of the best No.9s in the world right now and that’s the reason why every transfer window he’s ahead in terms of all the talks because, you know, maybe it is time, maybe it is time for him to move on.”

It was Kane’s 54th goal for England that helped secure the Three Lions a perfect start to their Euro 2024 qualification campaign as he surpassed Wayne Rooney’s previous record of 53.

On the achievement, Kane told reporters: “I don’t like to look too far in the future but I’m 29, I’m feeling fit and strong, the best I’ve felt in my career. I hope I have many more years.

“Playing for England is probably my greatest feeling in football. I want to do it for as long as possible and as a striker I want to score in every game.

“Hopefully there will be many more.”
